Stone

"We Will Rock You!"

Add texture to your landscape with the use of natural stone mulches, cubical rocks and boulders. Create a sitting area or walkway through your garden with square cut or random flagstone.

At Solty's Garden Centre you will find a selection of natural stone just right for your project. Take it with you, or have it delivered. Use our calculator to help you figure out how much material you will need for your project or call us, we would be happy to help.

Solty Garden Centre carries a wide range of soils, mulches and aggregates in both bulk and bagged quantities. Stop by our yard and we will load your vehicle, or call in an order and we'll deliver (see the section on our Delivery Service).

What's in a yard?

We measure our bulk loads in cubic yards. One cubic yard is equivalent to the contents of a box three feet tall, three feet wide, and three feet deep.
Need a better visual? Try this: our standard loading machine, the Toolcat, has a bulldozer bucket that carries exactly one half-yard.

Two bucket loads makes a yard, three bucket loads is a yard and a half, you get the picture.
Not much on Imperial measurements? Try this: instead of 3' x 3' x 3', imagine .9 metres by .9 metres by .9 metres. It's not exact, but it's pretty close.
How about something a little more garden-oriented? Well, a yard is roughly equivalent to five wheelbarrow loads.

Again, it's not perfect; the average wheelbarrow has about six cubic feet capacity, and a yard is about twenty-seven cubic feet. But in gardening terms, everything's a bit rough.
We can get even more practical with you if you want - how about calculating exactly how much soil you need to fit your garden space? Try our soil calculator!
All right, let's sum this up:

So now you know what's in a yard. The logical next question is...

How many yards can I have delivered?

...and the answer is a little more complicated. Each kind of soil or aggregate is delivered according to weight, not yardage. You pay for the yards you take, but we can only deliver a certain tonnage on any given trip. This handy chart shows you how many yards of each kind of material the Garden Centre truck can carry, as well as a breakdown of how the pricing works. Note that mulch and triple mix decline in price as your purchase size increases.

Naturally, if you order more than a full truckload of any material, we will need to make more than one trip and you will be charged an extra delivery fee.

The Garden Centre truck can deliver skidded rock material. On our end, we load this material by forklift.

Because we cannot practically transport loading machines to your home or job site, you will need to have your own equipment for unloading skidded material or else negotiate for piece-by-piece removal.

The crane on our Garden Centre truck is manually operated, and for the sake of safety can only unload shade trees with 60 millimetre caliper or evergreen trees of 200 centimetre height. For larger trees, or for large quantities, you may need to negotiate for a delivery with our larger tandem axle trucks which unload with high powered cranes.
